Acupuncture:

Orléans Centre for Physiotherapy offers medical acupuncture to patients. Acupuncture has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years, and has gained recognition and use in the western world over the past several decades.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles through the skin and tissues at specific points typically along what are called 'meridians' or 'pathways'. These pathways are believed to be energy channels through which energy flows through the body.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by restoring the normal energy balance within the body therefore allowing natural healing to occur.

The insertion of the fine needle into the tissues also releases endorphins. Endorphins are made by the body and are one of the body's own natural pain relieving chemicals. These endorphins block the passage of pain signals to the brain and therefore help to relieve or reduce pain within the body. When pain is reduced, the body can then restore normal biochemical balance and promote healing.

 Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture should not be painful to be effective. Our therapists are professionally trained and use the best acupuncture needles available to try and provide a painless experience.

Acupuncture may be used as the primary treatment, but generally at our clinic it is used in conjunction with other physiotherapy approaches to maximize the effectiveness of your treatment.

Orléans Centre for Physiotherapy is unique in the Orleans area because it features a manual traction table.

Spinal decompression has a mechanical effect on the discs in the spine that helps decompress the bulge in the disc and reduce the nerve irritation. The benefits can be long lasting but may require a series of treatments to get excellent results.

Symptoms caused by a bulging disc in neck and back pain that can radiate down the arm or leg; tingling and numbness in the arms or legs. A thorough evaluation by our well trained physiotherapists will allow them to determine the most effective strategy to help correct the bulging disc. This may involve using our manual traction table and other equipment as well as providing you with information on exercises, body mechanics and posture.
